WTO exhilarates export, worries domestic business

Vietnam has become a full member of WTO since Jan. 2007. It is among the hot events in the country this year and everybody can feel the WTO atmosphere on the mass media or even on the street. Export turnover of the country surged to 36B and the new influx of foreign investment reached 10B in 2006. Exporters welcome the event with strong hopes that the export markets will be more easy and generous to their business...

US named the 1st importer of VN footwear

The export turnover of the industry to the USA surged to 611M US Dollars in 2005 named the country the 1st importer of VN foowear. It is no doubt US will also lead the list in 2006 with the expected turnover 750M.

However, the market share of Vietnam footwear in the US import market stands only 4% compared with China 85%.

Material factory for Adidas & Puma

Several projects for footwear material malls are under discussion. Many footwear producers in Vietnam also suggest that the government should has policies to encourage investments into the manufacture of raw materials for the footwear industry. In the recent years there are several foreign companies invest into the sector consisting of the manufacture of leather, textile and other synthetic materials for the industry in Vietnam. However, companies still have to import around 40-50% of raw materials mostly from China, Taiwan and Korea.
